About the Event
No Kid Hungry, a campaign from the national nonprofit Share Our Strength, will invest $3 million in grants to organizations focused on early childhood to help decrease food insecurity among children under the age of six. Mitchell Learning Academy is 1 of 3 programs in our area to receive this award. MLA will partner with Jax Mobile Fresh Market for the Summer Weekend Backpack Program for children ages 0-5 years old. On Fridays, each family will receive a backpack filled with yummy, nutritious meals and snacks for students. Families will also receive recipes and tutorials from a nutritionist. The program will start on June 11, 2021.
“This school year looks different than any we’ve seen before, but one thing remains the same: kids rely on us not just for their education, but also for nutritious meals,” said Reshawndia Mitchell, Owner and Center Director. “This grant from No Kid Hungry will help ensure that we can continue to provide our students with the nutrition they need to learn, while also helping their families make ends meet during this difficult time.”
Summer meals look different this year for millions of students across America, but kids need nutritious food to reach their full potential. With many families having lost jobs or wages in recent months, more kids than ever rely on the meals they get at school. We are excited to be able to fill this void for families.
